Spreading God's love to people who have never heard of Jesus is something that our family has always valued as a part of life. Short term mission trips are one of the ways we feel that we can accomplish this goal of spreading God's love and truth. First of all it gives us a healthy view of life around the world, and not just in this small corner God has placed us in. It opens our eyes to the needs of others and gives us a softness of heart to hard circumstances. Secondly, it is a way that we can use our resources to give hope and encouragement to others. That may come in the form of encouraging full time missionaries or by actually ministering to the people in need. Here is a picture of Jason that he just emailed to me. He is currently south of the boarder and although we miss him we are glad to share him this week. We hear he is a favorite of the kiddos. Somehow that doesn't surprise me! He loves to sing silly songs on his guitar for kids and always has some fun game up his sleeve.
Here is what he wrote in an email to the boys:
I went out and taught 60 kids about Jesus' love today. There were many kids that were exactly your age that were living in boxes made out of cardboard and boards. They were very dirty. Their houses do not have electricity and they have to take a shower with the hose and go to the bathroom on the ground. The houses only have dirt floors and the food is so bad.
Please pray that Jesus can help these people. There is a church down here that is helping them a lot which makes me happy, but they need much, much more.
